Welcome to the fourth and final installment of our video series on biotechnology in Asia. This time we travel to Nepal to see how the introduction on artificial insemination is helping to improve the lives of small scale cattle ranchers.
Calves from inseminated cows do better In 2008 Nepal launched the Dairy Cow Improvement Programme and imported semen of the highest quality milk producing cows. Calves the the insemination program deliver 15-20 liters of milk per day, which is a large increase over previous yields.
This program has increased the revenue for small scale livestock ranchers and put more milk into the food supply chain.
